Sara Holbrook, who has written numerous books of poetry for children, teens and adults, as well as professional books for teachers, was surprised when two of her poems were used in several middle school Texas STAAR tests. She only found out when teachers, who were using older tests to prepare students for the next new test, began reaching out to her about what the right answers were and why. Read this somewhat funny but also troubling account of how the author was not able to make sense of the questions generated by test makers about her own poems.
